Vanara

Vanara

This ape-like race hails from the jungles of Shen Bei. They are curious and inquisitive creatures with little respect for other races’ notions of propriety, taboo, and courtesy. Not surprisingly, they are met with a certain exasperation from other races. Many cities with Vanara populations try to confine them to demarcated ghettos. They are known for their peddlers, rumor-mongers, jewel-dealers, and fences. Vanara are, however, widely recognized for such noble traits as courage, tolerance, and magnanimity. Elves have a particular fondness for Vanara, admiring their ability to flout convention and say what everybody is thinking but nobody wants to say.

Vanara do not wear clothes apart from loincloths, but do braid their fur in fashionable ways and decorate it with bandanas and trinkets. Fur is usually black, brown, or reddish-orange. Both hands and feet have full prehensile capabilities. They are vegetarians. They are excellent climbers, graceful acrobats, and deft pickpockets. Adventurers are common, probably more common than their fellow adventurers would prefer.
